The Business Carbon Workout
The business carbon workout is a carbon calculator specifically for businesses. It allows a business to enter up to ten years of energy billing details from which the workout calculates the carbon footprint of the business. Businesses also choose from list of business types which allows the calculator to 'split' the energy use into usage (e.g. heating, lighting etc.). Once data has been entered, the business can answer a series of questions about their premises. Once completed, the workout will give suggestions on how energy use can be reduced. All the information generated can be downloaded as personalised PDF documents.
The website features:
- A login facility to ensure only the company has access to their figures
- Selection of different business types to ensure accuracy
- Dynamic PDF generation
- Dynamic data charts (bar charts & pie charts)
- Lost password retrieval system
- The website was created in such a way as to make it easily portable to other websites with different branding applied

These details are then used to advise the customer on which renewable energy technologies are suitable for their circumstances.
The website includes:

The website was developed in conjunction with the National Energy Foundation and Energy Projects Plus. As well as the 'live' website, two laptops were also provided which run 'stand-alone' versions of the website for use in areas where there is no connection to the internet.
Carbon Workout
The 'Carbon Workout' is an interactive carbon calculator which was developed in conjunction with National Energy Foundation and the the c-change trust. It takes elements from traditional carbon calculators and then goes one step further and allows the user to make 'pledges' to reduce their carbon footprint based on the information they have entered.
The website includes:
- A complete carbon calculator including household, car travel and air travel elements
- A dynamic system of 'charting' your progress as you complete the calculator
- A downloadable final report giving information to help reduce your carbon footprint
- A series of 'pledges' based on your situation
Once pledges have been made, a further report is available, detailing your pledges and providing useful information to allow you to carry out your pledges. The website also emails the user after a three month period and allows them to revisit their pledges, report on their progress and (hopefully) make more pledges. The workout also links to PayPal so users can acknowledge their carbon debt.
The carbon workout was recently given 9/10 marks in an Observer poll of the top calculators, beating BT, bestfootforward, WWF, DEFRA and the official government calculator. The calculator is hosted within the main National Energy Foundation website.
